In a prime riverside location, this pub was used by Dickens as the basis
for scenes in Our Mutual Friend. There is a fish restaurant upstairs
from the pub and downstairs the chance to play traditional pub games
such as shove-ha'penny, skittles, cribbage and dominoes.

Pepys and Dickens often used to drink here and Turner came to the pub to
study the views of the River Thames. The notorious 17th century figure,
Hanging Judge Jeffreys also used to enjoy a drink here whilst watching
the nearby executions.
